What is microneedling?
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy or CIT, uses an array of fine, medical-grade needles to create thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin. The skin reads these as a healing signal and responds by ramping up its own collagen and elastin production, remodelling itself from the inside out.
It's one of the most well-evidenced treatments for tackling textural concerns, and at The Skin Lounge it comes in two forms. Our Deluxe Microneedling begins with a gentle enzyme peel, followed by precise microneedling tailored to your goals, finished with a soothing Epicutis mask and ice globe massage. Polyneedling takes it further, pairing the same protocol with a potent polynucleotide cell-regenerating serum for amplified repair. You can also include your neck and décolleté to extend the results beyond the face.
What microneedling treats
- Atrophic acne scarring and post-inflammatory marks
- Fine lines, particularly around the eyes and mouth
- Open or enlarged pores
- Stretch marks (on the body)
- Pigmentation and uneven tone
- Skin laxity and "crepiness"
Your microneedling appointment at The Skin Lounge
We always begin with a proper consultation: skin type, sensitivities, history. The microneedling itself takes 20–30 minutes, and we finish with a soothing mask and cooling ice globes to calm inflammation, followed by a hyaluronic infusion and SPF before you leave.
Expect mild redness for 24–48 hours, similar to a sunburn. By 72 hours you're typically back to normal. Real results (smoother texture, brighter tone, faded scars) start to become visible from week 4, peaking around week 8 to 12.
Aftercare
- No active acids, retinoids or exfoliants for 5–7 days
- Use only gentle cleanser and the products we send you home with
- SPF 50 daily, non-negotiable
- Avoid heavy workouts, saunas and swimming for 48 hours
Microneedling Bristol: common questions
How is microneedling different to a Hydrafacial?
Hydrafacial works on the skin's surface: cleansing, hydrating, brightening. Microneedling works into the skin to remodel its structure. They complement each other beautifully.
Will I see results after one session?
You'll notice a "glass-skin" glow within a week, but the structural changes, softened scars and better texture, typically need a course of 3–6 sessions.
